What is a Master Plan?

A Master Plan serves as a roadmap for guiding the future growth, development, and sustainability of a community by establishing clear goals, strategies, and policies. Even in a fully built-out community, a Master Plan remains essential as it provides a framework for managing ongoing maintenance, enhancing quality of life, and adapting to changing needs and challenges. By outlining strategies for infrastructure upgrades, and community amenities, the Master Plan ensures that the community continues to thrive and evolve sustainably over time.

Through this Master Plan, we will focus on several key areas:

Development and Enhancement: We will identify opportunities to expand and improve the City and the parks and recreation system. This includes examining mobility options, zoning requirements, and land use.

Accessibility and Inclusivity: We will explore how the community is serving all residents; and formulate strategies to enable individuals to continue to live in Pleasant Ridge as long as they want.

Sustainable Initiatives: We recognize the importance of preserving and protecting our natural resources. Our Master Plan will investigate opportunities for sustainable practices, such as native plantings, and wildlife, green infrastructure, and natural stormwater management.

The 5-Year Parks and Recreation Plan

We know that the parks and recreation facilities are a beloved part of the community, and as such a centerpiece, it is imperative that improvements over the next five years are founded on the vision of the community. With the previous Plan updated in 2019, it's time to set our sights on the next chapter and create a vision that will carry us forward for the next five years.

The goal for the Parks and Recreation Plan is simple: continue to enhance the parks and recreation system and maintain our world-class experience for all. We aim to better the cherished recreation spaces to reflect the needs and desires of the community, promoting wellness, connection, and an appreciation for nature.

Why is this plan important? This plan will serve as the road map for improvements to the parks and recreation facilities for the next five years and provide guidance for funding and action.
